SHAC Volunteer Application

Want to help make a difference for every North East ISD student?  Consider joining SHAC.

Current vacancies for the 2023-2024 school year are:

SMD 2:  One parent volunteer

SMD 2:  Two community volunteers

The NEISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) provides input to our trustees and District on health-related issues like nutrition, physical activity, mental health, human sexuality, recess guidelines, bullying and suicide prevention, and more.

The SHAC helps ensure local community values are considered in decision making. SHAC is primarily made up of parents from each of our high school clusters. Each member of the NEISD Board of Trustees selects four parents who represent them and live in their Single Member District. Along with parents, community members from health care professionals, law enforcement, clergy and more are also invited to be a part of the NEISD SHAC.

The SHAC meets at least four times a year, approximately every other month, from 12:15 - 1:30 p.m. Additional work sessions may be scheduled as needed, based on the work of each standing committee.

Community members from all areas of the District are invited to apply if you fall in one of the following groups: medical or mental health care professionals licensed or certified to practice in Texas, business representatives, law enforcement, senior citizens, clergy, non-profit health organizations, and local domestic violence programs.

Please remember, there are a limited number of SHAC positions. Filling out an application does not guarantee membership. SHAC members are appointed by the NEISD Board of Trustees.
