A ‘Spooky Science’ lesson has become tradition for Design and Technology Academy (DATA) students at Ed White Middle School thanks to teachers Kelsey Nuckolls and Melissa Flowers.
Both teachers temporarily put a haunted twist on their classrooms with the addition of cobwebs, ghosts yes, even ‘zombie juice.’ Part of the lesson includes atmospheric dry ice to show different states of matter and chemical reactions courtesy of "elephant toothpaste."
There are even Halloween-themed sensory boxes for their sixth and seventh graders to navigate and guess their way through. It’s not an easy classroom transformation – but the kids love it. And so do their teachers.
“They all remember the experience of this lesson and it’s fun for us too,” said Nuckolls. “They’re still kids and we do everything we can to have fun with it and have fun with them.”
DATA is a state-of-the-art magnet program that emphasizes career and professional readiness in the fields of Architecture, Visualization, Computer Science and Scientific Research.
