NEISD Campus Safety Specialist Spotlight: Pre-K Academy's Enrique Donnell
“I went from serving our country to serving our campus and community.”
Enrique Donnell served our country as a Marine, deploying to Iraq in 2005 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Now, he serves our students as he diligently walks the halls of North East ISD’s Pre-K Academy at West Ave as their Campus Safety Specialist.
Our safety specialist position (CSS) fulfills the House Bill 3 requirement that an armed security officer is present at each campus. They are stationed at our elementary schools and are solely focused on security. They monitor school grounds, ensure doors are locked, security cameras are working, and fencing and parking lots are secure. They also lead safety drills and training.
His time in the Marine Corps. prepared him to protect our greatest assets, our students and staff. The Marines taught him courage and attention to detail.
His day starts at 6:45 in the morning, walking the campus perimeter and checking the fence line and exterior doors. During the day, he checks cameras and interior doors, ensuring they lock and the campus can quickly be secured.
“This job definitely gives me a sense of why – a purpose. I’m here to protect the staff and students and to ensure their safety and security each and every day from the time they come here to the time of their dismissal.”
Our highly trained CSS team undergoes continuous training throughout the year to ensure they are ready for any security threat. They are a vital part of our multi-level security and safety processes, helping to keep our students and staff safe.
“My favorite part of the job, I would say, is interacting with all the children and their parents as well – and the staff – just building those relationships and fostering that cultural awareness. This job actually gives me 100% satisfaction.”
