Building with a Purpose

students by shed

The Pre-K Academy at West Avenue just added a brand-new building to its campus. Students from North East ISD’s Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) built the pre-k students a garden shed. The Pre-K Academy paid for the materials, and the CTEC students offered their newly acquired expertise to construct, roof and paint the shed.

“This is such a great experience,” said Johnson High School senior Nathan Arriaga. “Giving a blessing to someone is such a reward. The kids walked by while we were working and said, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’ I want to give that experience to more people.”

For Arriaga, this isn’t just a cool class that lets him work outside, he plans on going into real estate after he graduates, and the experience and skills he is learning now will really come in handy and give him a head start in his career.
