Coker families put their healthiest foot forward

Coach Ramos with the Student Fitness Council kids

Coker Elementary School families put their healthiest foot forward at the campus Family Fitness Night. The community event is hosted by Physical Education coaches Lauren Ramos and John Witt, with input from the fifth grade Coker Fitness Council. Student leaders from Churchill, MacArthur and Legacy of Educational Excellence high schools also play a key role in bringing the event to life.

“This event is open to the community with the goal of bringing families together to participate in physical activities and learn more about health and wellness,” said Ramos. “The night was a huge success!”

With that goal in mind, 25 stations were assembled for families to participate in with everything from Zumba to an obstacle course, tennis lessons, games like 9 square and more. North East ISD cafeteria staff was also on hand to discuss healthy eating habits and a University Health System representative went over bike helmet safety. By the end of the night, 100 new bike helmets were given away.

The Coker PTA provided prizes like jump ropes, playground balls and Academy gift cards. All participants were given a Fitness Passport to track how many activities they participated in during the event and that ticket went into a raffle.
