Devora Solomon got the surprise of her life today.
The Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School senior was surprised with a $48,000 University of Texas (UT) Impact Scholarship.
Devora was in her Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) class when representatives from UT walked in to surprise her with a check large enough to cover tuition for four years of college. Her parents were also there to celebrate the big moment with her.
Devora entered our AVID program at Jackson Middle School and continued that path at LEE. She’s a Summa Cum Laude graduate, an AP Scholar, National Achievement Scholar and is also part of the Medical Professions Academy at our Career and Technology Educational Center (CTEC).
Her time at North East ISD has been shaped by her AVID experience. So much so that she honored AVID teacher Jennifer Galindo at LEE’s recent Summa Cum Laude reception.
“She has impacted my life for the better and shaped the type of person I am today,” said Devora. “Mrs. Galindo has prepared me for my future, tutored me when I needed the help, and was always there for me when I needed her the most. She is a wonderful teacher and I do not know what I would do without her.”
Devora is a first-generation college student who moved to San Antonio from Africa. She plans to study nursing at UT. This scholarship helps make that dream come true.
Way to go, Devora! Watch the surprise in the video below.
