The JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) is designed to test even the most knowledgeable cadets. It's an impressive feat to advance to the National Championship. It's even more impressive to send two teams to compete in Washington, D.C.
JROTC cadets from Roosevelt and Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) high schools will compete at nationals June 24 – 28.
LEE's Academic Team is among 35 finalists out of a field of more than 1,700 Army JROTC programs worldwide. The team will be thoroughly tested in math, science, grammar, reading comprehension, personal finance and current events. The questions are at the SAT/ACT level and each must be answered within a 30-60 second time limit.
"This achievement is a credit to the entire faculty at LEE and the rigorous academic standards they have for these cadets," said Colonel William LaChance, Director of Army Instruction at North East ISD. "It is the direct result of their untiring efforts and commitment to excellence that the LEE JROTC program advances to the national round."
Roosevelt's Leadership Team is among 40 schools out of 1,700 Army JROTC programs to advance to the finals in Washington, D.C. The leadership team will be tested on its knowledge of JROTC curriculum, leadership theory, current events and scenario-driven leadership challenges. The team will be put through a series of academic and non-academic leadership challenges to test their problem-solving skills and ability to work as a team.
