Ready for what’s next

Student signing a letter of intent

Eight seniors in North East ISD’s Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) program signed letters of intent to colleges and employers in front of their teachers, families and friends Thursday, May 5.

CTEC offers students from all NEISD high schools the chance to become college and career ready with dedicated hands-on courses in Transportation Technology, Medical Professions and Construction Technology.

Gabby smilingMadison High School senior Gabriella Gomez is graduating as a Certified Nurse Aide. She signed a letter of intent to work for San Antonio Wellness and Rehabilitation. Gomez starts her new job on June 7. She will also be taking nursing classes at San Antonio College (SAC).

“This program has helped me gain confidence. I just want to help people. I was just going to go into nursing at SAC and learn it there, but now I know the basics, and that gives me this stepping stone. It’s gotten me more interested in my career plans.”

“The teachers are great to work with,” said Amezquita. “They teach you everything you need to know. It’s all hands-on. I learn by being shown one-on-one instead of watching a video or something, and that’s what they provide here at CTEC. So people should join; it’s a pretty good program.”

He signed a letter of intent to work for Hill Electric.

“It’s difficult to find experienced people out there,” said Hill Electric Representative Gary Kuentz. “To have a program like this that gives these young men and women a head start and the opportunity to learn a trade, so that once they graduate, they have a leg up on a lot of the people. Then, they will be moving up at a quicker pace in the workforce.”
