Mock interviews, facility tours and a question-and-answer session with hospital administrators. This wasn’t your average field trip for Madison High School students. They traveled to Northeast Methodist Hospital to learn more about future career opportunities in the healthcare field. The trip was organized by Career & Technical Education (CTE) teacher Billie Tolbert.
Students in the Madison Clinical Rotations and Culinary Arts class met with the hospital’s Executive Board, Human Resources representatives and the hospital’s Director of Nutritional Services.
“As a result of this opportunity, four clinical students have begun the application process for employment as Patient Care Technicians and Patient Care Assistants and several are beginning the application process for volunteering as well as observing a medical professional,” said Tolbert. “The contacts made and the information absorbed by the students has led to an amazing future partnership between Northeast Methodist and Madison High School.”
Culinary students even toured the hospital kitchens to learn more about what it’s like to feed employees, visitors and patients. They also got to sample some of the cuisine.
