A special type of teaching

Every day is different for Priscilla Silva. She works with special education and redirection students at El Dorado Elementary School. And she truly loves it.

“My first love was teaching.”

She also genuinely loves North East ISD. She attended Montgomery Elementary School, Ed White Middle School, Roosevelt High School and NEISD’s Academy of Creative Education (ACE).

“I reside in our District. This is what I know. I have raised six children through this District. NEISD is just family oriented.”

So, when Silva got a chance to teach, she knew she would do it at NEISD. She just didn’t think it would be in the Special Education department. But she’s fallen in love with that too.

“There was just such a need that I felt this is where I needed to be,” said Silva. “If you have a love for children and teaching, this is definitely an area where you will make the most impact, I feel. There is never a dull moment. The children -- they never cease to amaze me. I love that ‘aha moment.’ When it just clicks—anything: reading, math, tying their shoes or knowing when they need a break. When they figure it out for themselves -- I just love it.”

North East ISD is looking for men and women who love children and teaching. Silva suggests working with special education.

“Your support in gen ed or special ed makes a big difference. Come substitute. Try it out. If you keep coming back, then maybe this is the place for you.”
