NEISD offers meals and relief to families

Norma and her Royal Ridge ES Cafeteria Crew“Food is expensive right now and I know a lot of families need some help,” said Norma De La Vega, Royal Ridge Elementary School Cafeteria Manager. “That’s what we’re here for.”

Food insecurity doesn’t discriminate. Many of our families are taking advantage of North East ISD’s Summer Food Service Program, which provides free meals to children 18 years of age and younger. Any child is invited inside to eat breakfast and lunch in our cafeterias at 31 sites in June and July. Click here to view a complete list of locations and times.

Norma De La Vega is one of the incredible School Nutrition Service team members serving our children breakfast and lunch this summer.

“It makes me feel good when they come through the line and tell us thank you. And it’s important to us to make everything look appetizing when we serve it.”

Prior to working at NEISD, she worked in the fast food industry for more than 30 years. She says joining this District was a welcome change of pace. The schedule is one of the many perks of the job.

“The schedule is amazing,” said De La Vega. “I worked in fast food for 38 years and that wasn’t the case. We get along very well and we work as a team. It’s positive in the kitchen and everyone has a good attitude.”

Are you or someone you know looking for a job with great benefits and a flexible schedule? NEISD School Nutrition Services is hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, June 21, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Come learn more in Room 202 of the Community Education Center on 8750 Tesoro Dr.
