During our annual International Dot Day Celebration, students showed creativity by painting dot pictures with Q-tips. After reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds, they were inspired to create their own masterpiece.
Pre-K-1st grade students were invited to celebrate Scaredy Squirrel's birthday and make an acorn food craft. This annual tradition involves reading Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party by Melanie Watt.
2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade each had a battle of the books competition where students could read 10 books and then compete with their class team against other grade-level class teams. 2nd grade focused on fairy tales, while 3rd and 4th grade read award-winning books from lists created by the Reagan Cluster elementary librarians.
Author Bridget Heos visited Stone Oak to share with students how she finds funny ideas for books like Mustache Baby and Triceratopposite. The author helped students create a story and learn about the writing process in each session.
