Social emotional learning lessons are a must when forming relationships at the beginning of the year. After reading My First Day, students identified their feelings and the feelings of the character in the book.
Author, Liz Garton Scanlon, visited our kinder, 1ist and 2nd graders. The students brainstormed to write their own book and learned how ideas become books.
Librarian supported TEKS by collaborating with the 2nd grade teachers to encourage the exploration of fairy tales. Librarian provided teachers with a class set of books, timelines, tests, and hosted the Fairy Tale Bowl in the library.
Students participated in a spring reading campaign hosted by the librarian and family specialist which included home library book distribution and family reading incentives. Each student received 5 free books, a reading journal and family engagement activity book.
