Our New Book Ninjas read newly purchased books and created video book trailers to be shown on the Morning Program. This helps our new books get greater exposure and more students excited about reading them!
In November, author Bridget Heos visited Northwood. Students loved previewing her books at a Book Buffet the week before the visit and were excited to meet and hear her when she arrived! Students learned how she gets ideas for her books and about the writing process.
Our 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders earned a dog tag each time they read and passed a quiz on a Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee. Students who earned 5 tags could vote in the statewide election in January, and students earning 10 or more tags came to our celebration with magician Spikey Mikey in the spring!
Students who have made notable progress in their reading abilities can be recognized as Reader of the Month by their teachers. Students come to the library, receive a certificate and goody bag, and have their picture taken for the Reader of the Month Wall.
