NEISD to install perimeter fencing at high schools

churchill hs building exterior In the next couple of months, the community will see added safety improvements at the District’s high school campuses.

On Monday, Dec. 10, the North East ISD Board of Trustees voted to use 2015 bond contingency funds to move forward with a construction project that would install chain-link fencing around the perimeter at all NEISD high schools.

The project is another additional way to address safety and security at NEISD campuses. Because high schools are the largest facilities with multiple buildings and entrances, it was decided that they should receive the fencing. The District is now assessing elementary and middle schools.

“This is another great layer of security that will definitely make an impact,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian G. Gottardy. “We understand that there is no one answer to all safety concerns. It is one more piece of a comprehensive plan.”

The money for the construction of this project will come from the 2015 bond contingency fund. This is money that is left in savings after bond projects are completed under budget. It will not come from the District’s operating budget. It will cost $1,875,000.

Construction is expected to begin in March 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by fall 2019.
