Meet the ALE student behind this one-of-a-kind design

One of this year's Jackson Jaguars spirit shirts is a one-of-a-kind design by an original student. Abel Medellin is now a freshman at Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School, but he came up with this design last year as an eighth grader at Jackson Middle School.
Abel is an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) student with an incredible eye and talent for art and design. Each year, Jackson opens the logo contest up for student submissions. Abel submitted his, and now students and staff are wearing it on their hoodies and t-shirts.
Abel may have moved on to high school, but his teachers will never forget his talent and work ethic.
“Abel was in my Art 1 class,” said Art teacher Claudia Peña-Martinez. “He was always ready and willing to overcome any art challenges that I gave him. So, when I asked my students to design a new spirit shirt for Jackson, Abel excitedly grabbed a pencil and paper and quickly got to work. I am so proud of Abel for everything he accomplished this year!”
“Abel loves to make original designs for teachers and classmates,” said Katherine Matta, ALE Teacher. “He makes his fellow classmates into superheroes. He used his original designs to decorate many shoeboxes for the United Way project.”
Abel was gifted a t-shirt and hoodie with his design, but most importantly, his artwork is on display schoolwide. Way to go!
