Outreach-ing for the stars

Krueger’s School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) Student Launch Team impacts their community and future KSAT students. As part of the Applied Engineering course, eighth graders participate in several outreach projects and activities throughout the year.

“It feels amazing knowing that I can have a bunch of fun with all of my friends while spreading the knowledge of engineering to many younger kids around the city,” said Student Launch Team member Julian.

Through events like STEAMFEST, STEM Night, Science Extravaganza and other recruiting events, these students are showing off the skills they are learning to parents and younger students.

“Students teaching students is amazing to see…you really get to watch the excitement of the learner and genuine care and enthusiasm of the student-teacher come to life,” said KSAT Engineering Teacher Tracy Thomas. “It makes the eighth graders better public speakers every time we do an event. These team-building experiences have made positive STEAM memories for all involved!”

This student launch team has reached over 1,000 students, and they have no plans to slow down.

“I’m glad I get to help kids figure out what they want to do in their futures. It inspires me to go forth with my future plans,” said Student Launch Team member Madison.

Next year, KSAT will become the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA), focusing even more on courses centered on aerospace engineering, aviation technology, computer science and manufacturing.
