Rubio and Michael dressed up for spirit day

Wednesdays are Spirit Days at Krueger Middle School.

And it shows.

Teachers and administrators are dressed in gold and black.

Assistant Principal Michael Morgan likes to wear a spiky black and gold rocker wig to show his spirit.

But he also wears his love for Krueger on his sleeve.

“It’s a hidden jewel. The kids are fantastic. People who come here don’t want to leave,” said Morgan. “It starts with the top--the leader. Cynthia Rubio embodies Krueger. She bleeds the gold and the black. Teachers don’t want to go anywhere else.”

Rubio is the current Principal at Krueger and an inspiration for Morgan.

“Mrs. Rubio is probably the best principal for this school and this area. Sometimes I sit back, and I am in awe of the things she does.”

But for Morgan, it’s also bigger than Rubio and Krueger.

He just loves North East ISD.

He started his educational journey as a student at Windcrest Elementary School.

Then, he went to Ed White Middle School and graduated from Roosevelt High School.

As an educator, he returned to Ed White as an Athletic Coordinator.

“There is no place like North East. There’s no place like home,” said Morgan. “What I love is, when you walk around, there are so many employees who went to North East. They want to come back. You come running back.”

Morgan has also been an AP at Royal Ridge Elementary School and Harris Middle School.

But, his NEISD spirit goes even deeper.

His family has worked for the District.

In fact, his brother was the first principal of Wetmore Elementary School.

“Don’t tell him, but he’s probably the best person I have ever seen do that job,” said Morgan. “And so, to take things from him and mix it with what I have learned from Rubio-- I have the best of both worlds teaching me to be a principal.”
