Krueger Middle School Theatre Director Hidie Cabral is from Monterrey, Mexico.
So, Hispanic Heritage Month is not just a reason to celebrate; it’s critical.
“It is personally important for me because it is part of my culture, and it’s a way to bring home to my new home,” said Cabral. “Also, a lot of our population that is English Language Learners. If they are from any country that speaks Spanish, it is important for them to feel identified with their cultures.”

She brings books from Hispanic authors.
She plays music from Hispanic musicians.
She even dresses up like Hispanic historical figures to make sure the lessons are coming alive for her students.
For Cabral, Hispanic Heritage is more than just connecting with her culture; it’s a way to connect with her students.
“If the students can make a connection with me, that is going to bring us closer. That is going to close the gap of learning and build that learning connection,” said Cabral. “I think we have to take every single opportunity to enrich the lives of our students.”
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15.
