ISA seniors jumpstart careers with custom internships

High school seniors have a lot of big decisions to make in a very short span of time. The biggest of them all is what to pursue after graduation, whether it’s attending college or entering the workforce. The Internship Program at the International School of the Americas (ISA) gives seniors an edge when it comes to making plans.

“The Internship Program is one of ISA’s hallmark real-world learning experiences,” said Beth Kohlmetz, ISA Internship and Service Learning Coordinator. “Each senior designs their internship to explore their career interests and to gain professional experience in the workplace.”

ISA is the only high school in the District with this customizable internship program. Students are encouraged to pursue their passions. This summer, students gained experience at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, H-E-B, the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) and local accounting firms.

Internships are part of ISA’s commitment to providing its students with the resources and education to become global, productive citizens. Every ISA student graduates with 120 hours of practical experience and 120 hours of community service.

“At ISA, we believe that allowing our students to explore potential careers and academic fields of interest prior to their high school graduation better prepares them for post-secondary life,” said Kohlmetz. “We also strongly believe that adults and organizations offering internships to our students benefit from having young minds and fresh perspectives in the workplace.”

The program is always looking for collaborative business partners and mentors. If you’re interested in mentoring an ISA intern, click here to fill out an interest form.
