Birthday Surprise

Students with Cake Kits

Driscoll Middle School sixth-grader Ryan Anderson loves red velvet cake on his birthday.

And he will probably get one.

But he knows there are some kids who might not get a cake on their birthday, so he’s doing something about it.

Ryan along with members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), Students of Service (SOS) and Peer Assistance Leadership and Service (PALS) are putting together cake kits and birthday cards for the children at St. PJ’s Children’s Home.

“We want to help out the kids who don’t have parents to make cakes for them, so they feel loved,” said Andersen.

St. PJ’s Children’s Home is a non-profit providing a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis, along with other support services.

The students donated all the ingredients to make the cakes, wrapped them up and made cards for the kids.

They plan to deliver the birthday cake kits later this month.

“They wanted to give them something they normally might not have and to see them open their hearts up,” said NJHS Sponsor Amy Sadler. “It was really nice to see that.”
