Making an impact one meal at a time
“We don’t know how many meals they get a day.”
MacArthur High School Cafeteria Manager Lourdes Martinez knows the impact she and her team can have on their students.
“We feed them. We provide them a nutritious meal,” said Martinez. “Also, just them being in school – learning – we provide them something to eat that fuels them to keep going the rest of the day – to keep going to last period.”
Martinez also understands it is about more than meals.
It’s about smiles offered to students.
And a team of school nutrition employees helping provide thousands of meals a week.
“We have to have great teamwork to be able to achieve everything that needs to be done,” said Martinez. “From small salads to fruits to meals – everybody jumps in where it’s needed.”
They share laughs and their lives.
It’s a recipe for success at MacArthur.
But Lourdes says they’ve got room for others who have a passion for students.
“I like working with the team. They make the day go by really fast. The hours are great if you have kids in school, but even if you don’t, it’s just a great environment where you can move up.”
