Counselor's Corner

  • Welcome to the Counselor's Corner at Thousand Oaks Elementary!

The mission of the North East Independent School District Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, in partnership with parents, school and the community, is to provide a system of services which fosters the academic, career, personal, and social development of all students.

Elementary school counselors set the tone for developing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for children to become healthy, productive adults. With a comprehensive developmental counseling program that is based on National Standards, counselors work as a team with school staff, parents and community to create a caring atmosphere where children’s needs are met through prevention, early identification, and intervention.

As one of the pillars to the development of the 360 child, the counselors provide a safe outlet for conflict resolution, meaningful and appropriate social skills growth, and family support.  In addition, we support the framework of the "Leader In Me"  Program, through "Healthy Habits" lessons.

Helpful community resources are directly below. Our comprehensive guidance program is broken down for a more detailed listing of some of the things the counseling department is responsible for. Towards the bottom you will find more information about our campus counselors and how you can reach them.

    Thank you!

Mrs. Faryn Miller

I am so excited for my second year as part of the Thousand Oaks family! I am so excited to work as a team, and support our students! I am the full-time counselor here at Thousand Oaks, and I am here to serve you.

I graduated in June of 2010 from The Academy of Creative Education with my high school diploma. From there I went straight to Texas A&M University and earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I then pursued my teaching certification through Region 20 and completed the Teacher Orientation and Preparation Program with my 7-12 Life Science Certification. I joined the North East ISD family in July of 2014, teaching science at my high school alma mater. I began my master’s in August of 2015 at Angelo State University and I walked across the stage on December 17, 2016, with a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling.

I married my high school sweetheart on June 20, 2015. We currently have two spoiled dogs who are our fur babies. My husband is the love of my life. He is a wonderful support system, in addition to the rest of my amazing family.

I was honored by being selected as the 2017-2018 Secondary District Teacher of the Year. I am humbled to receive such a high honor, and I am glad I am able to give back to a community that has given me so much. In addition, my previous colleagues honored me by nominating me as the campus Trinity Prize Recipient for the 2015-2016 school year. I was fortunate enough to attend the At-Risk Youth National Forum in Myrtle Beach and present information about my previous school.

My mission is to help uncover the greatness in every student by supporting, encouraging, and empowering each student to become a responsible 21st-century learner and a respectful, successful leader of tomorrow. My goal is to guide your children to reach their full potential. I strive to help each and every student achieve success and prepare them to be productive, successful members of society upon graduating. I want your child to feel safe and supported while around me.
