Mrs. Holly Greenston
Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to check out this page. I joined the wonderful IKE family in 2018. I am a Special Education teacher and teach students how to be the best version of themselves through academic resource, social skills, and showing them they matter in this world.
I have taught in a variety of settings and countries for over 15 years. As a Military "brat", school wasn't easy for me; we moved around a lot, I couldn't sit still, had trouble focusing, and I questioned why we learned what we learned. The "slope of a line" in Math had no meaning to me when I was more focused on family stresses and navigating tough relationships. I'd rather play sports than read a book. Through some very supportive adults, including my mom, grandma, and a 5th grade teacher, they helped me see that learning is about perseverance. As quoted in Rocky, "Our greatest glory is not in falling, but rising every time we fall". Learning is about falling and rising. It is a journey, not a destination. We are learning everyday. As part of a team and a community, inspiring students to become lifelong learners is important to me. I want to help students see that it isn't just about grades, rewards, money, future, diplomas, awards, etc... learning is about the connections we have with each other, ourselves, and our environment. It is about perseverance!
In my free time, you will find me walking my dogs, cooking, tidying the house, pretending I can grow flowers (aspiring gardener), catching up with friends and family, listening to podcasts or books, jamming out to music, and doing Crossfit. I also love to travel, hike, and bike.
I am the lucky mom to two awesome kids, both in college, 3 fur-babies, and one grand-dog.
Perseverance helped me earn a Bachelor's in Science from George Mason University, and two Master's degrees (University of New Hampshire and Northeastern University in Boston).
Scheduled tutoring hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 - 2:45. However, I can be available before or after school by appointment.
All the best for a great year! Dig deep and soar high!
