Ms. Stacey High
Welcome ya'll!! I am so excited for you to be in my classroom this year! Yes, I know that's what everyone always says but I am truly excited that I get to be a small part of your education. Its going to be a fabulous school year full of twists and turns like your favorite roller coaster. You are about to delve into the wonderful world of phlogiston, fireworks, plastics, superconductors, ozone, nuclear energy, forensics, pharmaceuticals, life proceses and other countless magnificient things. Welcome to the wonderful world of CHEMISTRY!!
A little bit about me: I was born in New Orleans and was raised in a small town in South Mississippi until I was 15. We moved to Mansfield, TX (back then a suburb of Arlington) because my mom's family lived there. They were one of the original settlers of Arlington back in the olden days. A million years ago, I graduated from high school and continued my love of science at Texas A&M University @ Kingsville. I received a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a minor in both Chemistry and Psychology. Upon graduating, I went to work for 7 years as a Research Scientist's Assistant at UT MD Anderson Science Park Research Division in Smithville, Texas (home of the movie HOPE FLOATS). I worked with mustard gas, anthrax, BPDE (the strongest carcinogen known) and all sorts of fun things. You will hear all about that in class because I LOVE SCIENCE! I published three manuscripts discussing some of our findings in the lab. After hosting a group of teachers in the lab, I drank the koolaid and became a teacher. This is what I was meant to do! I love teaching. I am starting my 12th year teaching and 10th year teaching Chemistry. I have taught all levels of high school Chemistry and absolutely love it. I hope you will be inspired by something you learn or do in the classroom this year. A passion for science runs in our family: my mom is a nurse practitioner and was the first NP to testify as an expert witness in Texas. My great aunt and great uncle were Dr Elizabeth Bass who was the first woman to teach at Tuane University even before women were allowed to study and Dr Charles Bass, a parisatologist who developed nylon dental floss and you use his method of brushing your teeth.
Outside of being the total Science nerd, I am THAT volleyball mom that is always running around. Both my kids play on a national club volleyball team so life is busy. We have a minature horse, german shephard and a cat. When I am not running around the country at volleyball games, I like to travel and fish.
P.S. I love getting students accepted to summer internships. Please peruse the file in the announcement tab. If you have any questions, please email me. Due to COVID the dates have not been updated.
