Hello, Defenders! It is my pleasure to welcome you to Driscoll Choir, and I am delighted to be your choir director this year! I am starting my 11th year of teaching this year, and this is my 10th year at Driscoll. Last year, I was honored to be named the 2019 Driscoll “Trinity Prize for Excellence in Education” nominee. I was also named the 2020 Driscoll “Teacher of the Year,” and was chosen as the overall winner for middle and high school teachers as the 2020 NEISD “Teacher of the Year.” I can’t wait to build on this success!
Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself and what brought me to this wonderful school. I was born and raised in Billings, Montana. I loved to sing, dance, and act. That love of the arts was strengthened by incredible teachers who encouraged me to pursue my formal study of voice. During high school, I was a member of the Montana All-State Choir three times, a member of the All-Northwest Choir twice, and performed a solo with each of these honor choirs. College led me to Loyola University New Orleans where I pursued a Bachelor of Music Education. While living in New Orleans, I performed a wide variety of music including classical and jazz. I even sang in a few professional productions with New Orleans Opera. After finishing my first degree, I moved to Baltimore, Maryland to earn my Master of Music in voice from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. I have performed as a soloist and choir member all over the U.S. as well as Canada, Italy, and Ireland. My life has been enriched so much by music, and I feel that education is one of the best ways I can repay all I have been given by my teachers.
My husband, Matt Woodward, is the choir director at MacArthur High School. We met at Loyola University New Orleans and have been married 15 years. I was the Driscoll choir director for seven years before we welcomed our son, Oliver, in 2015. I took a few years off to spend more time with him, and I also taught private voice at Madison, MacArthur, and Johnson High Schools. I am thrilled to be back at Driscoll again! Outside of school, we enjoy playing with our son, visiting the zoo and museums, cooking, running, playing with our dog, and traveling to visit family and friends. Singing is my favorite thing to do, and I can't wait to make music with y'all!
