My name is Brooke Williams, and I'm a 6th grade ELAR instructor, Department Coordinator, and PALS sponsor at Bush Middle School.
I grew up in San Antonio and am a product of N.E.I.S.D; I attended Coker Elementary, Eisenhower Middle, and Churchill High School. I went Baylor University and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Education. In 2012, I received a Master's Degree in Leadership & Policy Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. This is the beginning of my 22nd year (eek!) in the classroom and my 11th year at Bush. I'm extremely proud of my profession and dedicated to the students and families I work with each year.
The best part of my life is defintely my family! My husband, Chris, is basically the best human being on the planet earth, and I'm thankful everyday for his mere existence. We have four children that keep us REALLY busy but make time to do things alone. When it's just the two of us, we enjoy traveling, live music, and spending time with friends!
Our children are incredible. Daisy is our oldest & beginning her last year at Texas Tech Univeristy. She's studying to become a nurse which is the perfect profession because she's like a million rays of sunshine wherever she goes! She's beautiful and has big dimples that you can see when she smiles and laughs. Will is next in our line-up, and he'll be a junior this year at Reagan High School. He plays varisty football which is very nerve wracking for me (my students get weekly updates on the games)! He has an intoxicating 'personality mix' I'd describe as playful, sincere and strong. If I was forced to go into battle, and could take just one person, I'd choose him. Third in line is our Ella! She'll be an 8th grader this year at Alamo Heights Junior School and enjoys cheer! She's striking like a Disney princess and as funny/witty as any any comedian you've ever seen - ever; I laugh a lot when I'm with her. Last but not least is our baby girl, Lucy! I'd compare her to a room full of bubbles... sparkly, dancing, bubbles of all shapes and sizes. She'll be a 5th grader at Woodridge Elementary School and likes to roller skate, play volleyball, and sing!
When I'm not spending time with my family, I keep myself pretty busy. Here are some things I like to do:
1. Play tennis- I'm mediocore-ish but enjoy playing. As long as it's not too hot, I like the fresh air & exercise- not to mention the cute tennis outfits and fun people that seem to be an added bonus with the sport!
2. Go out with friends- I'm extremely blessed to have a solid group of friends. Many of them I've known since childhood and others have come into my life as an adult. One thing they all have in common is their sincere kindness, capacity to enjoy life to the fullest, and the abilty to withstand the tough punches of life without losing heart. We go out for coffee, to eat, to shop, to get pedis, have pool/dance parties, and travel around to fun places. My suggestion is that everyone collect friends like mine!
3. Read- Yes, this is an obvious English teacher hobby, but it's what I've got (insert shoulder shrug). Some of my favorite books are, The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgeral and Those Who Save Us, by Jenna Blum. In addition to these titles, some authors I admire include C.S Lewis, Francine Rivers, Stephen King, and David Sedaris. I enjoy various plots but, more than anything, moved by powerful writers.
4. Sleep- I LOVE to sleep in during the summer and throughout the year on Saturday mornings! I love to sleep so much that I've decided my spirit animal is a Koala Bear; they can sleep up to 20 hours everyday! :)
In all sincerity, I'm looking forward to this school year and getting to know my new students. We'll read about interesting people, exciting places, new ideas, and some great stories. We'll write about the places we've been, the experinces we've had, the ideas we'd like to share, and the things we're learning about ourseleves. I hope you'll embrace the gift of written words and join me in learning more about the world - and yourself- in a new way... XXX OOO, Mrs. Williams
