Mr. Alan Sharps

Alan Sharps is in his twelfth year as a band director at Claudia Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson H.S. in San Antonio, TX. He co-conducts the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony. He is also the director of the school's outstanding Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combo. In addition to his regular instruction duties with the marching band, he oversees all of the technical and electronics aspects of the band program. 

Mr. Sharps’ most famous student is artist-producer Pharrell Williams, who was named Music Producer of the Decade 2000-2010.  Pharrell served as a judge on the NBC show “The Voice” and in 2013 he became just the 12th artist to simultaneously hold the top two spots in Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. His most famous hits Happy, Get Lucky and Blurred Lines propelled him from music producer to superstar fame.

Mr. Sharps received both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. serving as the Graduate Assistant Director of the U.M. “Band of the Hour”. During his time in Florida he also served as Assistant Director of the Florida Wave Drum and Bugle Corps. After teaching in Florida for five years he taught in Virginia Beach, VA for eleven years. His bands were awarded the Virginia Honor Band plaque five times.

In 1997, Mr. Sharps moved to San Antonio to take a position at Winston Churchill High School. During his eleven years at Churchill, the band was a four-time finalist at the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, six-time BOA Regional Champions and placed between third and sixth place six times at the Texas State Marching Band Championships. The band marched in the 116th Tournament of Roses Parade in 2005. 

In 2008 Mr. Sharps opened the new C.T. Johnson High School. The band has been a finalist three at the Grand National Championships, six-time BOA Regional Champions and the Bronze medalist at the Texas State Marching Band Championships. The band also was awarded the Sudler shield and in 2014 marched in the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade. He was honored by the CTJ PTA as a Lifetime PTA Member
