Why Geography is for me?
I have always enjoyed traveling and learning about new places and people. So, when I was able to complete my education, geography was a perfect fit.
Who am I?
Real simple, I am a down-to-earth person who treats the world and those that occupy its space as significant. I teach because I love to see my students make connections with concepts they might not have ever considered. I graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio a few plus years ago. I have exclusively taught Geography, this is my 21st year (15 years AP Human Geography, 14 years Pre-AP Geography & 21 years of World Geography).
I have a wonderful family. My husband is a retired teacher. We travel as often as possible. We are finally empty nesters. We have 5 amazing kids who are all successful and contributing members of society. We have 3 awesome grandbabies and 1 more on the way. I am a dog person, DIY fanatic and I love college football.
Quotes: The study of geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It's about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents. And in the end, it's about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together. ~ Barack Obama
Human Geography students might explore just about anything having to do with cultural geography, languages, religions, development, urbanization – and patterns of how they impact and spread across different lands.
A friend stated, “It’s an increase in geographic literacy, which I think helps us to better understand and interact with the world.”

Supply List:
Amsco AP Human Geography 2nd Edition (if feasible - you can contact Perfection Learning $22.95 plus shipping or use an alternative book buying location) if you have a friend in the class maybe share shipping cost. We can check one out to your student. However, this is a paperback and it may not be written in and must come back in good condition. Just like in college, most students purchase one, so they can write/highlight directly in the book. https://www.perfectionlearning.com
1 inch to 1 1/2 binder
lined paper (we take lots of notes)
500 index cards (lots of vocabulary)
blue or black pens (writing in class)
2 colored ink (can be any color for reflection)
highlighter (several colors)
colored pencils (maps etc.)
What's coming up?
In October, your student and you will need to decide if they are committed to taking the AP Exam in May. If so, they will need to pay College Board to sit for the exam. I believe, it was $40.00, and a bit cheaper for free and reduced lunch students. It is a commitment but still cheaper than at a university or even a community college. We do not guarantee college credit, but we will do all we can to prepare them.
How will I know when work is due?
All summative assessments (test and projects) will always be posted in google classroom and on the unit calendar in class as well as in SKYWARD at the beginning of each unit.As for formative and daily grades when they will be assigned and when are they due please check your students SKYWARD account. Very, very rare is it assignments are due the following day.
If you have any questions about assignments, please feel free to ask me via email and I will get back to you within 24 hours.
