Mrs. Kearns

Hello! I am Mrs. Kearns, formerly Ms. Bednarz.

I am a graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and I have been teaching for three years. Before teaching, I served the Madison community as an AVID tutor and instructional interventionist for the English Department. I completed my student teaching at Ronald Reagan High School; and, during my time at UTSA, I served as a reading tutor for Harlendale ISD, and a mentor for Northside ISD. Toward the end of my senior year at UTSA, I presented the conclusion of my research about the diachronic linguistical geography of the periphrastic perfect in North Eastern Europe at the 21st Annual McNair National Scholars Symposium at the University of California at Berkeley. Recently, as a second author to my mentor, Dr. Janis Harmon, our article, "Teaching and Learning in High School Reading Programs: Perspectives of Teachers and Students" was published in the Reading Psychology Journal. I love to teach and plan on extending my knowledge as a graduate student and, eventually, as a P.h.D. student.

As a teacher, I love my job almost as much as I love my beautiful 9-year-old daughter and wonderful husband. When I'm not learning or teaching, I am usually spending time with my family. I love music, and a long time ago, I was a choir student at James Madison High School!

Madison Strong!
