Public schools belong to the public, and the education of students requires a coalition of the total community. Every segment of society benefits from well-educated students who become productive, successful citizens. There is a cost to society for any student who does not succeed in school. Parents provide many hours of volunteer services, but the community and business involvement are also very important. An increase in both parents working, single parent households and other stresses make community involvement and support even more important than in previous years.
