Mr. Damon Peterson

Welcome:

My name is Damon Peterson.   I have been a teacher for 28 years, all at MacArthur.  I am a proud San Antonio native, having graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1977.  My college background includes a BBA in Petroleum Land Management from UT-Austin in 1981 and a MBA from UTSA in 1988.  Prior to my teaching career, I spent 14 years in the oil and gas and banking industries.

From a personal standpoint, I have been married for 30 years to my wonderful spouse, Minerva.  We have two children, Rob and Isabella.  Rob graduated from UT-Austin in May of 2018 and works in San Antonio for Atwell.  Isabella graduated from UT-Austin in May of 2020 and works in Austin for Texas Impact, an environmental policy firm.  She will continue to work at Texas Impact while beginning graduate school at UT-Austin this fall, pursuing a degree Policy and Environmental Science.  Both of my children were band kids, playing the alto and baritone saxophones, so I relate well to the commitment that it takes to both be a band student and especially a parent.

At present, I teach seniors in Advanced Placement Macroeconomics, On-Level Economics, and Personal Financial Literacy. Previous teaching assignments include AP Government, World Geography, World History, U.S. Government, and U.S. History.

My goal for my AP students is to learn the material at a high level of difficulty in order for them to pass the AP Exam in the spring with a grade of 3, 4, or 5.  Accordingly, I will review twice a week after school from 4.20 p.m. to 5.20 p.m. in my room (A206) for the AP Macroeconomics Exam starting one month before the test.  In addition, on Saturday, April 29th, I will conduct a review from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. for AP Macroeconomics.  I want to reach every student I can during this time period.  The AP Macroeconomics Exam will be given at 8.00 am on Thursay, May 5th.

For my regular economics students, my goals are to have each student master the required curriculum and graduate.  In both AP Macroeconomics and On-Level Economics, I want each student to gain useful knowledge of personal finance and life skills.   We will also conduct a on-line stock market game to introduce those types of investments. Please contact me at dpeter1@neisd.net if you need anything.

My personal financial literacy class is new to MacArthur and will cover a wide range of topics to help students make better decisions.  These topics include budgets, financial statements, leasing vs borrowing, investments, banking, insurance, credit, credit cards, loans, college research, paying for college, legal documents (wills, etc.) and other topics.
