Mrs. Berta Galan
Auto-Biography
Born and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas and my parents were Perfecto and Rosita Mancha. The youngest of 8, my parents always inculcted in us, their children the importance of education. My father was the first Mexican-American to be part of the Board of Trustees for Eagle Pass ISD. Both my parents worked tirelessly in and for our community and as a consequnce the district bewstowed the highest honor and named a school honoring my father; Perfecto Mancha Elementary School.
After graduating from Eagle Pass High School I moved to San Antonio where I received my BA in Secondary Education from Incarnate Word University and I received my MA in Bilingual-Bicultural studies from the University of Texas in San Antonio. In addition, I earned Certification in Elementary Bilingual Studies. Furthermore, I am State Certified to teach Elementary to Secondary levels.
My amazing family consists of my husband Bobby and our two wonderful sons, Bo and Jonathan, which by the way, both graduated from ISA. The International School of the Americas has been my academic home for the last 26 years. Previously, I was employed by EPISD and St. Anthony High School Seminary for 14 years.
I feel so blessed to be part of the amazing ISA community. Super excited to start my 43rd year as an educator teaching Spanish I, Spanish 3-Pre-AP, and Spanish AP Language and Culture. Teaching at the International School of the Americas, has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.
As we are in an unprecedented time in our lives due to the pandemic, I am busy getting ready to welcome all students in person and without a doubt we will have a new normal. Although I am uncertain what this year will bring, I am excited about the possiblities that await me to grow in my teaching craft in ways which one year ago I wouldn't have thought it possible. In addition, I am thrilled to reconnect with my students in person. I am so grateful to work with such an amazing staff. You can be assured that I will continue to always strive to make sure that every student's needs are met and provide a loving, caring, rigorous leaning enviornment.
Blessings to all and Stay safe!
