Mrs. Jere Hicks
This is my 11th year at Churchill, and is my 5th year as a special eduation teacher. Previously, I was a math teacher teaching both Algebra I and Geometry and serving as the geometry leader for two years. I have really enjoyed the move into special education and I look forward to helping all the students in all my classes.
I graduated from Texas State University in 1991, back when it was still known as Southwest Texas State University, with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. My primary teaching field is mathematics and my secondary teaching field is physical education. I taught one year of middle of school (7th grade math) and coached girl's volleyball, basketball, and track at Hearne Junior High in 1991-1992. After that I worked for several years as a civilian instructor at Lackland AFB teaching in the instructor school and electronics and crypto school. I then took some time off to raise two energetic boys before returning to teaching as an adjunct faculty member in the math department at Northwest Vista College.
I joined the Churchill team in 2009 as an algebra I teacher. My youngest son is a special needs child. He is a spark plug of activity and a bright light in our family, and raising him definitely guided me toward my decision to get my certification in special education.
