Welcome to the Tiger Band! A little info about me:
I am graduate of Texas Tech University and received a Bachelor's in Music Performance and a Master's in Music Education. I am beginning my 28th year in Music Education. I have been teaching middle school band for the last 23 years in North East. Before becoming Director of Bands at Tex Hill, I was the Associate Director of Bands and the Director of Bands at Jackson Middle School. I was given the awesome opportunity to start the Band program at Tex Hill and I am looking forward to another great year!
During my time at Jackson and Tex Hill, my bands have received consistent "Sweepstakes" awards in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. The Jackson and Tex Hill Bands have been recognized at the Region, Area, and State Level. They have also received numerous "Best in Class" awards throughout the State. The Jackson Honors Band was a TMEA State Honor Band Finalist in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013. In addition, in 2009, Jackson was named a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Competition. The Tex Hill Tiger Band was a TMEA State Honor Band Finalist in 2015 and a TMEA Area Finialist in 2017 aqnd 2019. In 2017 and 2019 they were also award the Commended Award in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Competition. In 2021 the Honors Band received an invitation to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago which is the highest honor any band can receive.
I enjoy being an active clinician for All-Region Bands around the state and serving as an adjuticator for UIL Contests. My professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Adjuticators Association.
My husband is the band director at Tejeda Middle School. I have two daughters, Ashleigh, who is an went to Johnson and graduated from Texas Tech this year is an architect and Lauren is at Johnson and a member of the incredible CTJ Band. I enjoy all things "band", playing and listening to all types of music, reading, running, and spending time with my family.
I strongly believe that middle school is a time of discovery for students to find their niche and have a place to belong. My goal is to instill a love and appreciation for music that will last a lifetime. I want my students to have fun as well as exercise leadership and self-discipline to pursue goals which will enable them to achieve their highest potential. It is my desire that students be a part of a program where they can take ownership and have a place to belong. I look forward to having you be a part of our Tiger Band family!
I am proud to be a Tex Hill Tiger and I'm looking forward to working with you this year as we "CONTINUE THE TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE."
