Mrs. Marisa Ramirez
I am in my 9th year at Driscoll, and in my 16th year of teaching! I am honored to be Driscoll's Teacher of the Year 2018-2019, and Driscoll's nominee for the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Not only am I a teacher, but I also sponser the Drone Club, and coordinate Mini Mac a peer tutoring group at Driscoll and Redland Oaks Elementary. I attended Texas State University, where I received my BS in Education. My husband and I have one daughter who is a 7th grader here at Driscoll and plays volleyball and select softball year around. I have two sons, one is in 11th grade at Madison H.S. He is a wrestler and is raising a lamb in the Agriculture magnet program, and my other son is in his 3rd year of college at UTSA. I enjoy being a pitching/speed and agility coach for softball, reading, writing, and spending time watching my children in sports, and working out.
I love the subject of reading. Reading is a subject that allows us to drop all other distractions and focus on the art of how the author writes and communicates. I learn so much about my students as readers and people through their genre preferences . It is deeply fulfilling to watch each one of them grow more proficient and confident throughout the course of our time together as they discover their inner voices as readers/writers.
I am grateful to have a job that allows me to draw on the elements of teaching that have long been a part of who I am while working with students who continue to inspire me each day.
