Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis in history, grades 1-8 Science Certification grades, grades 6-12
I am eagerly beginning my 29th year as a teacher. My career began in Lamesa, Texas as a 7th grade Texas history teacher. From there I taught for three years in Round Rock ISD, again as a Texas history teacher. When I arrived at Driscoll, I taught 6th grade social studies, and then Texas history. This will be my 16th year in the science classroom. My goal is to engage students every day and foster a love of science through the use of technology, analysis, inquiry and hands-on activities.
In 2009, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a fellowship program sponsored by the American Physiological Society called Frontiers in Physiology. The fellowship required reading timely science education articles and blogging with fellow science teachers from around the country, sharing effective pedagogy, developing lessons, presenting at the Experimental Biology conference, and working in a science lab for 7 weeks during the summer. I worked in a cardiovascular lab at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). The ultimate goal of the fellowship is to encourage teachers to incorporate inquiry in the science classroom through the use of current science and technology. In 2011, I was privileged to be asked to serve as a mentor to the new fellows in this program. I still have ties to the American Physiological Society as a reviewer of lessons submitted for their lesson plan archive, and as a participant in their annual PhUn Week (Physiology Understanding).
On a personal note...
I attended Texas Tech University (WRECK 'EM TECH!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies and minoring in history. I am recently married (my fomrer name is Anne Joy), and have one son who will be a sophomore this year. We spend most of our time at the river fishing or at the baseball park! My other interests include reading, spending time with friends and family, and swimming.
