B.S. in Family Consumer Science with a Teaching Certificate

Mrs. Melissa Ruiz

I know you all are just dying to hear all about me. So here is a short synopsis:

I was born and raised in San Antonio where I graduated from Judson High School in 2001. After graduation, I headed straight to Texas State University, in San Marcos, to study Family and Consumer Science. As a sophomore in college, I completed an amazing internship with The Disney Company that would later lead me to another job opportunity with the Disney Company. After graduating from college, with a Bachelor's of Science in Family and Consumer Science with a Teaching Certificate, I moved to Florida and worked for Disney for one year.

While at Disney, I received an e-mail from my former high school teacher asking if I wanted to work with her at Judson ISD's new High School. As I was looking for a change, I responded with excitement and flew to Texas for an interview. I moved back home 2 days later and was teaching at Wagner High School 5 days after that. Despite the fact that I left the state of Florida, I was able to remain a seasonal Cast Member for The Disney Company until 2009. I still miss it, but it was a great experience!

Speaking of experiences, I spent three summers as a Girls Scout Counselor/Chef for USA Girl Scouts Overseas. The slide show below is a culmination of my adventures. I write about this because it was a unique experience I never thought I would have had a chance to do. It taught me a lot about the world around me and I hope to pass that knowledge on!

By 2007, I was proud to call myself a Bradley Bear. I started off teaching Home Economics. 6 years later, in 2013, I married Coach Ruiz - former Bradley Coach, and by 2014 we had our first baby boy, Benjamin. Our daughter, Laila, will be one in November of 2018. I am now teaching AVID and LOVE the idea that I can encourage students to reach their full potential, live life to the extent that they dream, and stand tall with pride while they accomplish it all!

At Bradley Middle School we are more than just teachers, we are family! I am both proud and blessed to be a part of that family. I hope you are happy to be at Bradley too!

I look forward to a wonderful year full of goals, dreams, and successes!
