Ms. Heather MacNaughton
Hello parents and students!
I am so happy to be teaching Kindergarten again this year! I have been teaching since 2005. I have taught Kinder, 4th grade, Pre-K (the North East ISD Ready Set Go Program), 3rd grade, and 1st grade. I am originally from Ohio, but the Air Force brought my family to San Antonio when I was 9 months old. I have been here ever since! I have two masters degrees; one in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, and one in Library Science. I have one child, Ava, who was born at the end of 2019. I love Serna Elementary School's atmosphere; everyone is so friendly and helpful!
The best thing that you can do to help your child this year is to:
1. Read with them every night!
2. Have them "read" familiar stories to you by telling you what is happening in the pictures.
3. Have them look for words they recognize from school in the books you read.
4. Have them create their own stories by drawing pictures and then telling you what they wrote about.
These things will encourage your child to read and write. Show them how impressed you are and encourage them to do more!
