I am a proud product of NEISD schools! I graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Southwest Texas State University where I was a member of the Strutters Dance Team. I finished my studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Early Childhood Education and Bilingual Bicultural Studies.
I have been teaching for 24 years in both the elementary school and middle school settings. In the elementary school setting, I have been a classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, and Reading Interventionist. I have worked as a Reading Specialist for 14 of my years and absolutely love it. My work with children with dyslexia is particularly meaningful to me because I was not diagnosed with dyslexia until I was in college. I feel that I have a real understanding of how to help level the playing field for children who struggle. Teaching a child to read takes a true love for children and the belief that all children can learn.
I attended graduate school at East Carolina University to obtain an additional Teaching Licensure in Elementary Mathematics. It wasn’t until I was an adult did I realize that I am a “Math Nerd” and actually love math as well as reading.
I am truly lucky to come to work every day to do what I love.
“Learning for all. Whatever it takes!”
