Mrs. Dawn Rayner
My name is Dawn Rayner and I have the privilege of working with your child this year. I graduated from Texas State University (SWT) and specialized in early childhood education. I am very passionate about learning/teaching and continually advocate for improving the education of our young children.
I am married to my college sweetheart and we just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary this summer. We have three daughters: an Aggie graduate teaching her 3rd year in Houston, a senior art education major at Incarnate Word University and another, a 10th grader at MacArthur High School. A neighborhood stray cat adopted us last year and became our first furry pet. We cannot imagine our life without our precious Marshmallow.
I taught Kindergarten for eight years in NEISD and then “retired” for seventeen years to raise our family. During this hiatus I dearly missed the education experience. I volunteered at our neighborhood elementary school teaching various subjects (17 years), taught religious education (17 years), taught at a private preschool (3 years) and trained early childhood teachers in San Antonio and surrounding counties (8 years).
When our youngest daughter transitioned to middle school, I decided I would return to the classroom. My wish was to return to NEISD, yet I was recruited to help create a new Prek program in Comal ISD. After 2 years establishing a successful program, I returned to “my” district as a Prek teacher at Oak Meadow Elementary. I enjoyed my year as a Mighty Maverick, but then was selected to pilot a full day Prek
Program here at Royal Ridge. After a very exciting first year, I have returned for my second year as a Patriot.
When not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, watching movies, camping, and spending time with my family and friends. Because I love learning new things, I also enjoy visiting museums of all types.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of growing and learning!
