Mrs. Amy Chandler
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am so excited to begin another wonderful year at Encino Park! This will be my 19th year of teaching and 18th year in NEISD. I was born and raised here in San Antonio where I attended East Central High School. I went on to study and graduate from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, where I earned my Bachelor's and Master's Degree. Go Bobcats! I also recently completed my Principal as Instructional Leader Certification through Schreiner University.
My career in teaching began in Hays CISD at Kyle Elementary in Kyle, Texas while earning my Master's Degree. After I moved back home to San Antonio, I began teaching in North East ISD. Teaching has taken me to several different schools in NEISD: Roan Forest Elementary, Longs Creek Elementary, and now Encino Park.
I have a wonderful husband and two amazing boys. Mr. Chandler is a firefighter-paramedic in the San Antonio Fire Department and you will often see him on campus volunteering as a Watch DOG. I have two boys ages 13 and 10. My oldest attends Tejeda Middle School and my youngest is at Encino Park. They keep us VERY busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way! You will often find us at Boy Scouts, 4H, baseball games, or out and about in the neighborhood! During my precious free time I love to read books, cook, walk, ride bikes, travel, and spend time with my family!
Some of my favorite things are: Amazon, Nordstrom, Target, and Half-Priced Books! For special treats I love to eat at Chuy’s, Hop Doddy, Lupe Tortilla, Grimaldi's, La Hacienda, Pei Wei, and Freddy's! Yum!!! Some other random favorites…..BBQ, coffee, movies, books, technology, pedicures, board games, and of course – the Spurs! Go Spurs Go!
I never imagined I would have my dream job or have this much fun doing it! As a lifelong learner, I enjoy learning from my colleagues as well as my students. In our GT classroom, I believe in empowering my students by giving them confidence to take risks. Throughout the year students learn that our classroom is a safe place to struggle as well as learn from our mistakes. I enjoy pushing my students to reach their full potential. I have an amazing, rewarding job, and I hope to pass on my love of learning to all of my students! I am looking forward to a great year!
Parents, teachers, counselors, or administrative personnel may refer a student for GT services. Not all students who are referred for testing may qualify for services. To qualify, students must demonstrate an academic need for enrichment and must score in the 95 percentile or higher on the majority of nationally normed testing administered.
