Jan L Rekemeyer

I have taught all grade levels from 1st grade to 12th grade, including adults seeking their GED.  It's hard to say what my favorite grade level is, but I can say that I really enjoy middle school and older the most because some of these students actually know who my favorite classical  musicians are!  That's because I have been teaching for over 25 years!  Here at NEAC, I am teaching 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. This is my second year here and I am very happy to be working with such a wonderful staff and administration who have given me so much support.

When not teaching, I enjoy all outdoor activities, especially if it includes camping, grilling, rivers or lakes, or just relaxing in my lawn chair.  I have three adult children all living in Iowa, two cats, a husband, and no dogs.  If you don't find me outdoors, you will find me sharpening up my pool game or cooking a good pot of chili.

As for the future, my passion is working with young people and bringing history alive for them.  Winston Churchill's paraphrase of a Spanish philosopher's quote..."Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it."...lives in me.  Whether I'm teaching Social Studies, Reading, Math or Science, I can find a way to cross the curriculum and go with my passion.
