Degrees and Certifications:
BS Elementary Education Minor in ELAR Certification in ESL
Mrs. Allyson Tollette
I had a fantastic first year at Castle Hills Elementary!!!
Just a little about myself: I am a San Antonio native and I attended all North East schools K-12th grade, graduating from Winston Churchill High School. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in ELAR from Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State. I am certified to teach first grade through 8th grade. I began my teaching career at Walzam Elementary in first grade. I then went on to teach first and second grade at Redland Oaks Elementary when it opened for 15 wonderful years. I took some time off to raise my three children. During the time I was home with my children, I kept up with teaching through substitute teaching and intervention tutoring. Once I returned to teaching, I taught fourth grade at Colonial Hills for 3 years! I am excited to be at Castle Hills teaching one of my favorite grades---2nd!!!
The great thing about teaching is that each day is different (never a dull moment). Each school year, you get to teach new students with individual personalities, different interest and ideas. My greatest joy is seeing a "light bulb" moment and the priceless joy of my students gaining new knowledge.
Each year I strive to be a teacher that my students look up to, in every facet of life. I believe that a classroom should be a safe, caring communtiy where children are comfortable to be themselves. I strongly feel that the social and emotional development of students is of great importance and that learning can only happen when children feel safe in the school environment. I utilize strategies to ensure our classroom community will flourish through our morning meetings, classroom jobs, "Leader In Me" lessons and encouraging problem-solving skills. In my classroom I integrate a growth mindset-oriented learning processes. I have seen such a beneficial impact on learning from implementing this in my classroom environment.
In my free time I enjoy horseback riding, reading, and spending time with my friends and family.
