Mr. Scott Sexton

My name is Scott Sexton. I am honored to be part of Johnson High School family. I started my teaching career in 2004 at Oklahoma City Public Schools in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I have been teaching for a total of six years in Oklahoma in Careers and Business Education, Computer Technology, Science, Math, and Gifted and Talented. Last year, I taught Science, Math, Gifted and Talented, and Track and Field for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

This will be my first year teaching as part of the Johson High School family but I am a product of the North East Independent School District. I grew up in San Antonio, TX, went to all NEISD schools, and eventually graduated from Madison High School in 1999. For the 2022-2023 school year, I will be teaching Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement, Mental Health and Counseling, and Career Prep. I am also the Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement and Career Prep Practicum/Work Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator for Johnson H.S.

I am currently working on my Doctor of Education Ed.D from Colorado State University in Curriculum Design and Instruction. I completed my Master of Science (M.S.) degree from the University of Maryland in Criminal Justice Administration and Management in 2014, my Executive Juris Doctorate Degree (E.JD) and Master of Legal Studies (LL.M) from the University of Oklahoma in 2014, and my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Education and Aviation Management in 2003.

My teaching experience has been acquired from different schools and districts within Oklahoma including inner city, urban, and rural and I have taught all grades from 6th to 12th. In addition, I have also worked for major tutoring centers such as Sylvan and Huntington tutoring students in K-12 in all subjects including test prep.

I have also worked in the private sector, state, and federal government and hold a variety of industry-based certifications.

I worked for five years in the Department of Corrections for the State of Oklahoma in Adult and Juvenile Mental Health, Mental Health Court, Veterans Court, and Drug and Alcohol Court. I then went to the United States District Court for the District of Oregon where I worked as the Central Violations Bureau Administrator and Deputy Law Clerk to the Honorable Patricia Sullivan, US Magistrate. Finally, I left the criminal justice system and went into the private industry sector and worked with a commercial airline as their Manager of Training and Development and then most recently as their Manager of Inflight Operations and Labor Relations.

My goal is to see my students work hard not because they have to, but because they really want to and prepare themselves to be successful in the career or profession of their choice.

My passion for teaching and the desire to work hard to increase the knowledge of my students make me enjoy what I do.
