St. Mary's University B.A. English Language Arts and Reading ELAR 4-8 Certification

Ms. Alejandra Mendez

Hello! My name is Ms. Mendez. I am one of the 6th Grade Reading and Reading Honors teachers at Nimitz Middle School this year. Although this is my first year teaching at Nimitz, I was a Clinical Teacher on the campus from January through April of this year (2021). I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Language Arts and Reading from St. Mary's University and became certified to teach 4th-8th grade ELAR.

While I was clinical teaching, I learned not only the physical environment of the campus, but I learned the sense of community of Nimitz. Having grown up in the same neighborhood of the campus, I already had the feeling of a welcoming community. However, stepping foot onto the campus and having the opportunity to teach at Nimitz solidified the concept of the welcoming atmosphere. At the end of my Clinical Teaching experience, I was awarded the Preservice Educator of the Year Award by the Education Deans of Independent Colleges & Universities of Texas.

When I am not on campus, I spend time with my loving pets and family. I love dogs, going to Six Flags, watching new shows, spending time with my family, and my little Yorkie, Lilli!

My favorite book: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
