St. Mary's University B.A. English Language Arts and Reading ELAR 4-8 Certification

Ms. Alejandra Mendez

Hello! My name is Ms. Mendez. I am one of the 6th Grade ELA and ELA GT/Honors teachers at Nimitz Middle School this year. Although this is my second year teaching at Nimitz, I started my educational experience during my clinical teaching in the Spring semester of 2021 with Nimitz STEM. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Language Arts and Reading from St. Mary's University and became certified to teach 4th-8th grade ELAR.

While I was clinical teaching, I learned not only the physical environment of the campus, but I learned the sense of community of Nimitz. Having grown up in the same neighborhood of the campus, I already had the feeling of a welcoming community. However, stepping foot onto the campus and having the opportunity to teach at Nimitz solidified the concept of the welcoming atmosphere. At the end of my Clinical Teaching experience, I was awarded the Preservice Educator of the Year Award by the Education Deans of Independent Colleges & Universities of Texas.

In addition to teaching, I am also our campus' §504 Coordinator.

When I am not on campus, I spend time with my loving pets and family. I love dogs, watching new shows, spending time with my family, and my little Yorkie, Lilli!

My favorite book: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

My motto: "Everyone is a reader... some just haven't found their favorite book yet." - Anonymous
