Welcome to Art 1 at MacArthur High School, home of the Brahmas!

I cannot wait to share the art studio with you this school year! This year will be my 9th year teaching but first year at MacArthur High School. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming! I cannot believe how lucky I am to have landed at such a wonderful campus!

I am originally from El Paso, Texas but I moved to central Texas to go to college. I graduated from Texas State University - San Marcos where I received my degree in Interior Design. We would create all our renderings and architectural drawings by hand and this is where I fell in love with creating art. After graduation I worked as an Interior Designer at an architectural firm here in San Antonio, Texas until my heart realized how much I truly was meant to be in the classroom. I became a teacher and haven't looked back since! I recently received my Master's Degree in Art Education from the Art of Education University in February of 2021 and I am already itching to go back to school for my Doctorate. I love to learn, especially about all things art and consider myself a lifelong learner!

Art is my passion and who I am to the core. I love to teach art because I love giving students the ability to express themselves through visual mediums. I believe it is my job to help my students find peace in their day through art and find art as a stress relief. Students have so much stress these days and I hope they can learn that through art or a creative passion they can have an outlet. Art can be incredibly intimidating and I hope to grow confident artists who are willing to trust themselves and take chances. I love to watch how students can go from doubtful to confident in their art skills throughout the year. Surprising themselves with newfound skills is always so fun to watch as a teacher! Art is like any other skill, you are not born with it, you earn it. I truly believe that anyone can learn to be an artist!

In my free time I love to create my own art. Aside from being an art teacher I consider myself an artist as well. I like to create mixed media paintings using acrylic, oil and a 3D element. I am currently enrolled in an oil painting class to make sure I continue to grow as an artist and never forget what it feels like to be a student.
