Adapted Physical Education (APE)
Program Coordinator: Christine Rostedt
Adapted Physical Education (APE) is a specialized instructional service that supports North East ISD's comprehensive physical education program. APE provides individualized physical education instruction for students with disabilities whose unique needs require adaptations to activities, equipment, instructional strategies, or learning environments. Services are designed to address the specific strengths, needs, and goals identified in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Students receiving APE services are provided access to the district's physical education curriculum and opportunities to participate alongside their nondisabled peers whenever appropriate. When significant motor or psychomotor needs impact a student's ability to access and benefit from the general physical education program, specially designed instruction is provided as determined by the student's ARD/IEP Committee.
The NEISD Adapted Physical Education Program is committed to:
- Providing equitable access to physical education opportunities for all students.
- Supporting the development of physical, motor, social, and cognitive skills.
- Promoting participation in inclusive physical education settings to the greatest extent appropriate.
- Building confidence, independence, and lifelong engagement in physical activity.
- Delivering specialized instruction and supports that help students achieve their individualized educational goals.
Through collaboration with students, families, educators, and related service providers, the NEISD Adapted Physical Education Program strives to ensure that every student has meaningful opportunities to participate, learn, and succeed while developing the skills needed for an active and healthy lifestyle.
North East ISD is committed to providing high-quality, individualized physical education services that empower students to reach their fullest potential and actively participate in school, recreation, and community life.
