Time has gone by so fast. I am beginning my 31th year of teaching and I can remember my first year like it was just yesterday. I am coming back to 5th grade this year. I cannot decide which grade I like best. Each year I seem to love the grade that I am teaching. I guess it just comes down to the kids. It is all about the kids.
Teaching has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother has pictures of me playing school in the garage with my dog. I love the idea of learning new things, whether from a class or in a book. I received my bachelor’s degree in Education from Southwest Texas State University (Go Bobcats!!) in San Marcos, and I received my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Houston-Downtown (Go, Go, Gators!!) in May of 2004. The rewards are enormous, be it intrinsic (knowing I touched the future) or extrinsic (Teacher of the Year, May 2003, Stafford Elementary School). I plan to continue to educate myself. I am interested in computers and coding as well as culinary school. There is no future for me without some type of schooling included, whether online or in the classroom.
I am married to my college sweetheart, Phillip. We have just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. We met at SWT over 30 years ago and have been together ever since. He is a Sales Representative for safety equipment and instruction. We have two wonderful children, Rebecca and Jacob. Rebecca graduated from Texas State University (formerly known as Southwest Texas State, my husband's and my Alma Mater!). She majored in Communicating Design. Yes, we have found a way for her to support herself with art. She lives in Austin and is a talented artist. Rebecca works as a graphic designer and marketing specialist. Jacob graduated from Ronald Reagan High School. He is a self-taught graphics artist, barber, musician, photographer, and videographer. He is a free-lance graphic designer, photographer and videographer.
In my spare time I love to read. Among my hobbies are collecting Christmas ornaments and manger scenes, baking, and crafting. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and rarely do we have a weekend with nothing to do.
