Mr. Dean Whitus

This is my 29th year learning from my students and sharing what I've learned, as well. Happily, this is my 28th year at MacArthur! I've been passionate about the art since 3rd grade where I began studying and performing at the Dallas Theatre Center. I attended Booker T. Washington High School for Visual and Performing Arts in downtown Dallas under the direction of Dr. Paul Baker. After attending junior college in Tyler Texas (TJC) and completing my degree at Texas State University, I moved to New York City to further my studies completing an intensive two year Meisner Training program.

I had the great pleasure of advancing to State UIL One-Act-Play my very first year of teaching at Memorial High School in McAllen, Texas. But the excitement of being recruited that summer to come to MacArthur was even more thrilling. My goal for you always is: "Stand tall, speak loud, walk with confidence, get any job you want and go become the best, one and only, YOU!" (Subsuquently, the Mac Drama student's and I have been to State four times, last in 2016, alternate to State three times, and District champs at least 15 times.)

I am also a proud father of two incredible children, the oldest graduated in May 2018 from Bard College in upstate New York, and the younger is a freshman at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. My wife is also a professional educator in Northeast running the cinema program at NESA.
